Political Career: Singh hails from the Bhumihar Brahmin community. In 2004, he was elected as a legislator from Karachhana on the Samajwadi Party ticket after his father vacated the seat upon becoming a Member of Parliament.
Singh served in the government of Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Minister of Environment. He initiated the mitigation of affected areas by natural gas in Agra, Lucknow, and Kanpur. He also chaired the Seed Development Corporation. In the 2017 assembly elections, he was re-elected from Karachhana, a significant win for his party, as he was the only candidate from the Samajwadi Party to win in the Allahabad and surrounding areas.
